Truck loaded with chickens rolls in Brampton

Two of Highway 410's northbound lanes are blocked north of Steeles Avenue in Brampton after a crash involving tractor-trailer carrying a load of chickens early Monday morning.

The lanes are expected to be closed until 11 a.m., Ontario Provincial Police say.

Two lanes remain open to traffic.

Peel EMS officials said one person in the truck was taken to Brampton Civic Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Reports from the scene indicate many of the chickens, in cages, were killed when the tractor-trailer rolled into a ditch shortly after 4 a.m.

The lanes are blocked to allow crews to remove the dead chickens and transfer those that are still alive to another truck.

Police are investigating the cause of the rollover.
