LONDON, Ont. - Premier Dalton McGuinty says a Tory government would result in "deep, unprecedented" cuts to schools, hospitals and municipalities.

Speaking to the Association of Municipalities of Ontario in London, the Liberal premier warned the Progressive Conservatives can't be trusted to maintain services.

Former Premier Mike Harris turned his back on municipalities once he got elected, McGuinty says, and current Tory Leader Tim Hudak will do the same if he wins the Oct. 6 vote.

McGuinty says the Tory platform has a multibillion hole in it, and municipalities will be the ones forced to fill it by closing hospitals, firing nurses and slashing education funding.

McGuinty says the Liberals will meet their promise to upload $1.5 billion in savings for towns and cities by 2018 and work with municipalities to create a new fund for municipal roads and bridges.

The premier also promised to make the provincial gas tax permanent, and to find common ground on 10 out of 12 priorities set by AMO.
