LUCKNOW - Animal welfare authorities have seized 73 dogs after checking up on orders issued late last month in southwestern Ontario.

The Ontario SPCA says the dogs were seized today at a property near Lucknow, south of Kincardine, Ont.

The dogs were small- to medium-sized animals and a variety of breeds.

They will remain in the care of the Ontario SPCA while the investigation continues.

Officials investigated animal cruelty complaints at 16 locations on Feb. 27.

No charges were laid but compliance orders were issued to owners for things like animal housing and medical treatment involving ears, eyes, teeth and skin.
