TORONTO - CBC broadcaster Linden MacIntyre and author Anne Michaels are among the finalists for this year's Scotiabank Giller Prize.
Vancouver writer Annabel Lyon, Montreal's Colin McAdam, and Toronto author Kim Echlin also made the short list, which was announced this morning at a news conference.
MacIntyre is up for his novel about religious scandal entitled, "The Bishop's Man."
Michaels made the cut for "The Winter Vault," her first novel since 1996's acclaimed "Fugitive Pieces."
Worth $50,000, the Giller is Canada's most lucrative literary award. The Giller winner will be announced at a dinner to be held November 10 in Toronto.
Margaret Atwood had been on the Giller long list, but was not among the finalists announced this morning.
This year's jury is made up of short story writer Russell Banks, British author Victoria Glendinning and Canadian writer Alistair MacLeod.
Echlin is in the Giller race for her third novel, "The Disappeared" (Hamish Hamilton Canada). McAdam is up for his second novel, "Fall."
Lyon has been nominated for her debut novel, "The Golden Mean" (Random House Canada).
