TORONTO - "Barney's Version" has nabbed a leading 11 Genie nominations.

Paul Giamatti, who stars as Barney Panofsky in the big-screen adaptation of Mordecai Richler's last novel, received a nomination in the best actor category.

Co-star Dustin Hoffman, who plays his father, is up for best supporting actor.

Close behind "Barney's Version" was Denis Villeneuve's "Incendies," which received 10 nominations. The film, about twins who uncover secrets of their mother's past, was nominated for an Academy Award last week.

Other films scoring multiple Genie nominations included "Splice," "Heartbeats" and "The Trotsky."

The Genie Awards, which honour the best in Canadian film, will be handed out in Ottawa on March 10.
