TORONTO - A four-year-old boy is progressing well after a bone marrow transplant from his five-year-old brother.

John Badmus, who has sickle cell disease, received the transplant at Toronto's Sick Kids Hospital.

Dr. Adam Gasses says while it's still early John is doing well and he hopes the disease will be cured completely.

Without the transplant from Daniel, his brother, John would have faced a short and painful life.

He would have had to receive monthly transfusions and could have suffered further complications.

He already suffered from recurrent pain, infections, chest complications and reduced blood supply to many vital organs, including the kidneys and the brain.
