The Canadian Food Inspection Agency says an Alberta company plans to destroy all of the beef involved in a massive recall and E. coli scare.

The agency says XL Foods Inc. has confirmed that the beef in the recall that began last month will be destroyed.

The recall involves more than 1,800 beef products across Canada.

The CFIA also says millions of kilograms of meat stored at the Brooks plant and warehouses that were not part of the recall will either be rendered or cooked at a high temperature to kill any E. coli.

The company can still apply to use some of this cooked material for food products.

CFIA says if the company uses the high temperature treatment for this unrecalled beef, the agency will oversee the process and test the product to ensure it is safe.
