PARIS - Canada's Patrick Chan and Alissa Czisny of the United States hope to clinch spots in the Grand Prix Final from the Trophee Bompard this week.

World champion Chan won at Skate Canada last month and will face competition from Czech ice skater Michal Brezina, who finished first at Skate America and hopes to qualify for the Grand Prix Final for the first time.

The 20-year-old Chan, from Toronto, holds world records in both the short and free programs, and overall score.

Meanwhile, Czisny will compete against world bronze medallist Carolina Kostner of Italy and world junior runner-up Elizaveta Tuktamisheva of Russia in the women's event.

The Trophee Bompard is the fifth event of the International Skating Union's Grand Prix Series. It begins on Friday with short programs and short dance.
