TORONTO - Critics say Human Resources Minister Diane Finley may have jeopardized talks aimed at ending the aboriginal land dispute in Caledonia.

Finley signed a petition that calls for a public inquiry into OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino's actions in the town in her riding.

The document, which now has more than 4,000 signatures, was drafted by residents who complain that police mishandled the aboriginal occupation.

Liberal critic Todd Russell says Finley has muddled the government's position on the dispute, which could undermine talks between aboriginal and federal negotiators.

Provincial Conservative Toby Barrett, who also signed the petition, says he supports the call for an inquiry and not the criticism of Fantino.
