Cruelty charges are being considered against an Etobicoke cat owner after the animal survived a 22-storey fall from an apartment window in June.

"Layla" suffered two broken legs in the fall. A Humane Society official says the cat was taken to a vet, but was then taken home again before receiving necessary surgery.

The vet called the Humane Society and officials had to obtain two warrants before finally getting possession of the cat two weeks later.

The cat has since undergone $5,000 of treatment and should be well enough to leave hospital within a couple of days.

The Humane Society is seeking a home for her and also requesting donations to help pay the vet bills.
