Liberal leader Stephane Dion has left a meeting with the Prime Minister saying there's no doubt there will be an election call soon.

Dion says Prime Minister Stephen Harper wants Canadians to go to the polls early so we won't see how unprepared his government is for a fall session.

Dion is also standing by his assertion that an early call amounts to breaking the law, considering Harper's government had previously passed legislation determining a set date a 2009 election.

Harper had insisted that fixed election dates would stop the parties from using elections as a political tool.

Dion's Monday afternoon meeting with Harper was the last in a series of recent get-togethers between the PM and the other party leaders.

Harper says he called the meetings to talk about whether the opposition would co-operate with the government in the fall session.

Dion, Bloc Quebecois leader Gilles Duceppe and the NDP's Jack Layton all say their meetings with the Prime Minister showed he's made up his mind to hold an election.

Top officials in the Prime Minister's Office say they are expecting an Oct. 14 vote.
