A man in his 30s found himself buried waist-deep in a trench Wednesday morning during his work shift.

Toronto police say the man, who was working for a plumbing and draining company, was digging a hole at a client's home when the dirt collapsed shortly after noon.

The worker's colleagues called 911 after he became trapped in the mud. The man is conscious and breathing but until he is rescued, emergency crews don't know what type of injuries he suffered.

A vaccuum truck had to be ordered to help lift the dirt off the site.

The ministry of labour has been notified and is investigating the incident.
