A truck driver amazingly walked away with only minor injuries after a full size wheel flew off a trailer and was sent crashing into the driver side windshield of his big rig.

The tire came loose from a U-Haul trailer before smashing through the windshield on the westbound express lanes of Hwy. 401 at Yonge St around 10 a.m. Friday morning.

OPP will examine the tire, while the wheel-less trailer will be towed back to the company that owns it.

Meanwhile, a man is in hospital after a being hit by a car at Bathurst St. and Davenport Rd. The severity of his injuries aren't clear. It happened around 3:30 a.m. on Friday morning. The driver of the car stayed on the scene and was questioned by police, who have not yet laid any charges.

Police are still searching for the car involved in a overnight crash on Gerrard St. near Jarvis St. Officers say two cars collided around 2:30 a.m. on Friday morning. One car hit a pole, and then ended up in the corner of a hotel.

The other car involved fled the scene. It's described as a silver sports car with significant front end damage. One person in the other car was hurt and is in hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No one was hurt during a rush-hour crash in the downtown core just after 9 p.m. Police called to the intersection of Yonge St. and Adelaide St. W. for a multi-car crash. Air bags deployed and the cars were pretty beat up but no one needed to be taken to hospital. Police are investigating.
