MEXICO CITY - Adrian Gonzalez hit two home runs and a double and drive in six runs to lead Mexico to a 14-3 victory Monday night that eliminated South Africa from the World Baseball Classic.

Elmer Dessens allowed two runs - one earned - in six innings for Mexico, which avoided elimination from Group B and will play the loser of Tuesday's Cuba-Australia game on Wednesday in another elimination game.

Mexico broke open a 3-2 game with three runs in the seventh, taking advantage of a bases loaded walk by Jorge Cantu and a throwing error by first baseman Brett Willemburg.

Gonzalez highlighted a four-run eighth with a three-run shot, his second of the game.

South Africa starter Justin Erasmus allowed five hits and three runs in three innings.
