Google has rolled out Flu Trends for Canadian users today, a new tool that lets people track flu activity.

Using real-time search engine data, Google Flu Trends can track how active the flu is depending on how often people search using flu-related terms such as ‘Cold/Flu Remedy’ and ‘Influenza.’

Google Flu Trends was first launched for the US in November, then was expanded to include Mexico in April. New Zealand and Australia were added in June.

Today, Canada is amongst 16 countries to receive the service.

Google Flu Trends has an edge on traditional reporting methods that need lab tests and clinical data to be processed before results can be registered.
