Students at two GTA schools have taped their mouths closed in protest of the treatment of Tamils being held in Sir Lankan refugee camps.

About 800 teens from Albert Campbell Institute in Scarborough and Middlefield Collegiate in Markham took a vow of silence for the day and covered their mouths with red tape in the shape of an “X.”

The word “SPEAK” was written across the tape.

Following the Sri Lankan government’s May defeat of the LTTE, also known as the Tamil Tigers, barricades were erected around two Tamil cities, Jaffna and Vavuniya. About 300,000 more Tamil civilians are being held in camps located nearby.
