HAMILTON, Ont. - An 84-year-old Hamilton man who refused to go to a hospital after a car crash has died of injuries suffered in the accident.

Police say the man died of internal injuries, adding it's not uncommon for people think they are OK after an accident and have symptoms show up later.

The man was helped by witnesses at the scene Tuesday but refused medical aid and continued to his destination by taxi.

About three hours later, the elderly man was found unconscious in his son's home and died in hospital 14 hours later.

The man's 13-year-old grandson, who was also in the car when it crashed, was treated in hospital for minor injuries and released.

Police say the crash occurred when the unidentified man tried to make a U-turn and was broadsided by an SUV. A 39-year-old woman from Caledonia driving the SUV and her 12-year-old son received minor injuries.
