An investigation is underway after a motorcyclist was killed in a collision with the driver of a vehicle in Port Colborne on Thursday morning.

The crash happened on Highway 3 and Miller Road.

Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) say members of the Niagara Detachment’s Highway Safety Division responded to a report of a collision involving a motorcycle just after 6 a.m.

Investigators say a pickup truck, operated by a 41-year-old man from Port Colborne, was crossing Highway 3 while travelling northbound on Miller Rd. when he collided with a motorcycle, operated by a 31-year-old man also from Port Colborne, that was travelling eastbound on Highway 3.

The collision occurred within the intersection, they said.

“As a result of the collision, the motorcycle driver suffered critical injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene,” the OPP said in a news release.

The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured and remained on scene.

An extensive on-scene investigation was done with the help of the OPP Traffic Incident Management Enforcement team, including technical collision investigators and a reconstructionist.

Anyone who witnessed or has footage of this crash is asked to contact OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
