Man accused of shooting at vehicles on Hwy. 401 faces additional charges

Police continue to search for a suspect who allegedly fired at passing vehicles on the 401 in Mississauga yesterday.

A man accused of shooting at vehicles on Highway 401 and committing a rash of carjackings and attempted carjackings in Toronto is facing more than a dozen additional charges.

In a news release on Tuesday morning, Ontario Provincial Police said 29-year-old Troy Ledrew had been charged with 18 offences, including four counts of attempted murder using a restricted firearm, six counts of robbery using a firearm and three counts of possessing a firearm contrary to the prohibition order.

The charges are in relation to the incident that occurred on Highway 401 near Dixie Road on the morning of Nov. 26.

Ledrew allegedly fired at several passing vehicles on the busy highway before stealing a car to flee. No motorist was injured in the shootings.

OPP have said more than 10 drivers had reported their vehicles being hit by gunshots.

The 29-year-old was arrested the following day in Toronto’s east end, where he allegedly tried to carjack several vehicles at gunpoint.

Toronto police said Ledrew was allegedly involved in six carjackings and attempted carjackings. One of those resulted in a shooting that left one person in critical condition.

Ledrew is facing 27 charges in connection to the incidents in Toronto.
