A 41-year-old man wanted for allegedly striking a police officer with a vehicle during a traffic stop in Brampton last month has been arrested.
Peel Regional Police said the man was taken into custody on Thursday after a warrant was executed at a Mississauga residence.
During a traffic stop near Peel Centre Drive on May 26, the man, whose vehicle had improper licence plates, allegedly became uncooperative and ran away.
“After a foot pursuit, the suspect resisted arrest, assaulting the officer during a physical struggle,” police allege.
The man, police said, was able to break free and run back to his vehicle.
“In a reckless attempt to escape, the suspect drove off, striking both the officer and the marked patrol vehicle before fleeing the scene,” police said.
The officer sustained minor injuries.
In a news release on Friday, police said the man, 41-year-old David Munoz of Brampton, had been charged with assaulting a peace officer, assault with a weapon, dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, breach of probation and failure to comply with a release order.
