Suspect charged in Rexdale shooting that injured two men

A 28-year-old man has been charged in connection with a shooting in Rexdale last month that left two men injured.

Toronto police said they got a call for a shooting in the area of Rexdale Boulevard and Islington Avenue on the evening of Sept. 29.

The shooting appeared to have occurred in the backyard of a housing complex off of Bergamot Avenue.

An unknown man allegedly shot at two people. Police said officers only found one victim. He was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

Police were later notified that a second victim walked into a hospital also with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of their investigation, police arrested a suspect, identified as 28-year-old Muhammad Sheref, on Tuesday.

They alleged Sheref had a loaded semi-automatic handgun at the time of this arrest.

He has been charged with 13 firearm-related offences, including two counts of discharging a firearm with intent, two counts of aggravated assault and two counts of possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized.
