Toronto police have charged a suspect following an alleged antisemitic assault in the Lawrence Manor area in North York.

It happened near Bathurst Street and Baycrest Avenue at around 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 27, during the Jewish sabbath and high holiday period.

According to police, the suspect was a passenger in a moving vehicle when he assaulted a victim who was walking on the sidewalk, and also directed racial slurs toward them.

Police said the victim was identifiable as a Jewish person at the time of the assault.

“This investigation is being treated as a suspected hate-motivated offence,” police said.

Investigators released photos of a suspect on Nov. 11 in an effort to identify him.

Police said Friday that 21-year-old Junhee Jeong was arrested on Nov. 12 and has since been charged with assault.

He is scheduled to make a court appearance on Jan. 7.
