Toronto police arrest suspect in shooting death of 28-year-old man

Toronto police have arrested a suspect in connection with the murder of a 28-year-old man last week.

In a news release on Tuesday, police alleged that 44-year-old Omar Peters fatally shot Isaiah Peters Alexander, who was found unresponsive in a laneway near Eglinton Avenue West and Yarrow Road on the morning of June 19.

After being located, Alexander was transported to the hospital but was later pronounced dead. He is the city’s 15th homicide victim of the year.

Police said Peters has been charged with second-degree murder as a result.

Investigators have not released the motive in the killing.

The circumstances that led to the shooting are unknown as well as whether the suspect knew the victim.
