An elderly woman who sustained life-threatening injuries in July 13 collision in southeast Scarborough has died, Toronto police say.
The crash happened in the Port Union neighbourhood, near Lawrence Avenue East and Charlottetown Boulevard, east of Centennial Road.
Toronto police say they were called to that area just before 4 p.m. for a personal injury collision.
Investigators say a 91-year-old woman was driving a Toyota Corolla eastbound on Lawrence Avenue East at the same time that a 38-year-old woman was driving a Toyota Rav 4 northbound on Charlottetown Boulevard.
The elderly woman suffered a “medical episode” causing her vehicle to run the red light and collide with the Rav 4 before hitting a building, they said.
She was taken to the hospital in critical condition and succumbed to her injuries there on July 18.
This is now a fatal collision investigation.
Anyone with further information, including area residents, businesses, and drivers who may have security or dash camera footage of the incident, is asked to contact Traffic Services at 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers anonymously.
