Toronto police have charged the suspect wanted in connection with an “unprovoked” stabbing of a TTC electrical worker.
Police identified the suspect as Anthony Christopher David McLaughlin on Saturday.
In a news release on Sunday, Toronto police said the 36-year-old turned himself in on Saturday.
Police said the worker was walking on the sidewalk near Bloor and Yonge streets, at around 8:10 a.m. on Friday morning, when an unknown man approached him from behind.
The TTC had previously said the electrical worker was on a break at the time.
Toronto police allege the suspect stabbed the victim and fled the area.
Police said the TTC worker was taken to the hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.
The transit commission said the worker has been released from the hospital and is recovering at home.
“I wish them a full and speedy recovery,” TTC CEO Mandeep Lali said in a statement.
“Our employees’ safety is paramount and incidents of violence against TTC workers in the line of duty are completely unacceptable.”
McLaughlin has been charged with two assault-related offences. The charges have not been tested in court.
“Huge thanks to @TorontoPolice for their quick work in making this arrest in the stabbing of an on-duty #TTC electrical worker,” the TTC said in a post online following the news of the suspect’s arrest.
