A second suspect has been arrested in connection with the 2022 fatal shooting of a 31-year-old man and a 2023 shooting that left another man seriously injured.
Toronto police announced in a news release on Thursday that 30-year-old Christopher Atkins-Price, of Toronto, was apprehended earlier in the day.
He has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of Ding Ping Wang, who was shot and killed while he was inside his vehicle in a plaza parking lot in Scarborough, near Midland and Passmore avenues, on Nov. 12, 2022.
Atkins-Price is the second man charged in the homicide.
Last month, 39-year-old Justin Longshaw, also of Toronto, was arrested and charged with first-degree murder.
Homicide investigators previously revealed that evidence indicated that a suspect conducted “reconnaissance” of the area before carrying out the shooting.
Investigators also said they believe Wang was targeted, but that the motive remains unclear.
They noted that the victim, who was a father and owned a kitchen business, was not involved in gangs or a “high-risk criminal lifestyle.”
2nd suspect linked to 2023 shooting
Police also revealed on Thursday that Atkins-Price is also facing an attempted murder charge.
It stems from a shooting in the same Scarborough plaza parking lot on March 10, 2023.
Police said a 40-year-old man was inside his vehicle when a suspect approached and fired several shots.
Video of that incident was released to the public last month and showed an unnamed victim entering a parked vehicle at the plaza. Moments after starting the car, the suspect exited the backdoor of an adjacent vehicle and began firing as the victim drove off.
The victim sustained serious injuries but was able to drive away, police said.
