A suspect wanted for more than three years on a Canada-wide warrant for an attempted murder in Brampton, Ont., has now been arrested, Peel Regional Police say.

In a news release issued Friday, police said 36-year-old Nakeem Jamar Johnson was arrested on Sept. 22 in Cross Lake, Man., and has been transported back to Peel Region.

Johnson, police said, was wanted in connection with a shooting in the area of Queen Street East and Rutherford Road in Brampton on Feb. 3, 2022.

Police said a male victim was found in the area suffering from serious, but non-life-threatening gunshot wounds.

Search warrants were subsequently executed in connection with the case on May 8, 2023, when investigators recovered five firearms, 10 kg of methamphetamine, and a “significant” quantity of fentanyl and cocaine.

A Canada-wide warrant was then issued for Johnson’s arrest.

He has now been charged with attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, possession of a firearm, possession for the purpose of trafficking, possession of a loaded prohibited firearm, and possession of a prohibited device.
