Environment Canada has issued a frost advisory for Toronto as temperatures are expected to drop to near zero tonight.

The national weather agency said damage to plants, trees, and crops is possible as the mercury plunges Monday evening. The mercury could drop as low as 3 C on Tuesday morning amid sunny conditions.

“Take preventative measures to protect cold-sensitive plants, trees, and crops. Cover up plants, especially those in frost-prone areas,” a bulletin to the Environment Canada website read.

The yellow-level advisory spans much of southwestern Ontario, including the entire Greater Toronto Area.

Like Monday, Tuesday’s forecast is calling for a high of 16 C. The weather will warm up on Wednesday and Thursday with a high of 22 and 20 C, respectively, despite a 40 per cent chance of showers each day.

Looking ahead to the weekend, the temperature pulls back to 18 C on Friday as a chance of showers persists. Saturday will see a high of 16 C amid sun and cloud. The temperature climbs to 21 C on Sunday.
