One person was taken to the hospital with serious injuries, say Toronto paramedics, following a fire at a Toronto Community Housing building in North York

The blaze erupted late Wednesday afternoon at a high-rise apartment building at 2999 Jane St., which is just south of Finch Avenue West.

Early Thursday morning, Fire Chief Jim Jessop told CP24 that a lithium-ion battery (LIB) caught fire and exploded.

He added that there are “numerous” LIBs and e-bikes stored on scene.

The person taken to the hospital, said Jessop, is a male.

Two people have possibly been displaced as a result of this fire, he said, adding Toronto Fire Service investigators have been contacted.
