Toronto has reached a new daytime high temperature for Oct. 29, breaking a record set 80 years ago.

CTV Toronto weather anchor Lyndsay Morrison says the temperature climbed to 23.8 C at Pearson Airport Thursday afternoon.

The previous record high for Oct. 29 was 21.7 C set in 1946.

“We’ve had strong southwest winds ushering in warm air today, although a cold front moving through early this evening will cool us down somewhat and bring us a few showers,” Morrison says.

The temperature will drop down to a low of 8 C overnight, and on Friday, the mercury is expected to rise to 14 C, about four degrees warmer than normal for this time of year.

Humidity caused significant fog on Thursday morning, prompting the national weather agency to issue a fog advisory for Toronto. It led to flight delays at the airport this morning.

Halloween forecast

Morrison says October has been warmer and drier than normal.

“It’s a treat for Halloween this year with above-average warmth and comfortably mild temperatures for trick-or-treating in the evening. No concerns about rain this year, either,” she says.

Environment Canada said Toronto will see mainly sunny skies and pleasant light winds with a high of 14 C on Halloween.

“This pattern looks to continue into the early days of November too, with sunshine and temperatures in the upper teens for Sunday and Monday,” Morrison says.

Sunday and Monday will see sunshine and a high of 16 C and 15 C on each day respectively.
