A 33-year-old Brampton man has been charged after a City of Toronto traffic agent was fatally struck by a dump truck Thursday morning while on the job in the city’s east end.

The incident happened in the area of Millwood Road and Overlea Boulevard at approximately 9 a.m. where officials first reported it as a pedestrian-involved collision.

It wasn’t until late morning that Mayor Olivia Chow identified the victim as traffic agent, writing that she was “heartbroken” to learn of the death.

Investigators say the 42-year-old traffic agent was directing traffic when a blue Kenworth dump truck travelling southbound on Millwood Road attempted to make a left turn onto eastbound Overlea Boulevard.

The truck hit the traffic agent during the turn, police said.

Despite life-saving efforts, the traffic agent was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver remained at the scene and was cooperating with officials, Duty Insp. Peter Wallace previously noted.
