An arrest has been made in connection with two unprovoked stabbings in Hamilton’s downtown core, police say.
In a news release, police said on Thursday at around 8 p.m., officers received a report of a stabbing near 70 James Street.
A 37-year-old man was found at the scene suffering from multiple stab wounds and was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Police said moments later, another stabbing was reported near 94 York Boulevard.
There, a 39-year-old man was found with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries. He was taken to hospital for treatment.
“While police managed both incidents, officers who were en-route to the scenes located a male matching the suspect description. The individual was walking westbound on York Boulevard with a knife in hand,” police said.
“Officers conducted a high-risk takedown arrest and took the suspect into custody without further issue.”
Investigators have described the attacks as “unprovoked and completely random.”
The suspect has been charged with two counts of aggravated assault, failing to comply with a probation order and failing to comply with a release order.
“Anyone with information is asked to contact Division 10 Staff Sergeant at 905-546-4725,” the news release read.
