A white cargo van that was sought in connection with a hit-and-run in Vaughan earlier this month that killed a live-in caregiver has been recovered, police say.
York Regional Police (YRP) say on Oct. 4, at around 8:30 p.m., a 60-year-old woman from Richmond Hill was walking northbound on Pine Valley Drive, from Major Mackenzie Drive, when she was fatally stuck by the driver of a vehicle heading northbound. The motorist fled the scene.
The body of the victim, who has not been named, was located days later by a passerby at the side of the road.
Police announced the arrest of 41-year-old Kamel Hazime, of Vaughan, on Monday. He had been charged with failure to stop after accident resulting in death.

On Tuesday, investigators said they found the suspect vehicle, a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter.
“(We) thank everyone who provided information and assisted with the investigation,” YRP said in a news release.
Police previously confirmed that vehicle debris found at the scene of the collision belonged to a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter van, model year 2020 to 2022.
