TTC Metropass holders who were able to park for free in the transit commission's parking lots are decrying the new parking fees that came into effect Wednesday, reports say.

Some are upset, however, that TTC employees are still able to use the lots for free while members of the public will have to pay up to $12 per day.

Brad Ross, a TTC spokesperson, says free parking for employees in the 13 lots is important for workers since they begin operating the service for commuters before transit options are available for them to get to work.

Bob Kinnear, president of the Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113, told the Toronto Star he wasn't too concerned about the parking issue since most of the spots are taken by people who come from outside Toronto.

He did say he was concerned about charging Toronto residents to use the lots since they're already subsidizing the transit system, the newspaper reported.
