A 57-year-old woman has been rushed to hospital after a stranger hit her in the head with an object at Museum station on Tuesday afternoon.

Police say the incident happened at 1:12 p.m. on a subway platform and the woman was struck on the right side of the head.

The TTC says the woman approached a collector station about the attack and she was bleeding. Her injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

Police are hunting for a suspect described as a black male in his mid-twenties with a medium build. He has dreadlocks in his hair and he was wearing a light grey jacket with horizontal black stripes.

Investigators are looking at surveillance footage and have found a knife at the scene, but they are not sure if it was used in the attack.

Police are also not sure if this was a random or targeted attack.

There is no disruption to train or bus services at the station.
