Toronto Mayor David Miller hopes to clear a backlog of building permits by the end of the month.

During a news conference Tuesday afternoon, Miller expressed ongoing frustration with the slow pace of negotiations aimed at ending a month-long strike by city workers.

He also announced the city will be processing up to 500 building permits that were submitted before the strike began.

He hopes the move will help contractors and renovators stay in business as the work stoppage drags on.
