Councillors on the public works committee are exploring the option of legalizing ball sports – including ball hockey – on city streets, the Toronto Sun reports.

Currently, there's a $55 fine for playing a ball sport on the street.

The chair of the pedestrian committee, however, thinks the law shouldn't be changed to accommodate the minority of ball hockey players at the expense of cars, the majority.

Public works chairman Glenn De Baeremaeker told the Sun that common sense and common civility should prevail and it shouldn't be the city that tells kids whether or not they can play.
