TORONTO - Toronto FC have signed newly acquired Canadian international Dwayne De Rosario to a new four-year contract.

The 30-year-old attacking midfielder joined Toronto in a trade from the Houston Dynamo last month that sent young defender Julius James and allocation money the other way.

De Rosario's new contract, which replaces a two-year deal he had with the club, was announced at a news conference Thursday that belatedly introduced the new acquisition.

`We are absolutely delighted to get this deal done,' said Mo Johnston, Toronto's director of soccer. `We worked long and hard with all parties involved in coming to an agreement with Dwayne. This new deal means he's going to be wearing a Toronto FC shirt for many years to come, and we couldn't be happier.'

De Rosario made US$325,000 last season with Houston, which moved him in a bid to free salary cap room.

De Rosario has 51 goals and 42 assists in eight MLS seasons. He has won four MLS Cups (2001 and 2004 with San Jose, 2006 and 2007 with Houston) and was named MLS Cup MVP award in 2001 and 2007.
