A deal has been reached to extend the strike deadline for unionized Drivetest workers.

The deadline has been extended until 2 a.m. Friday morning.

The union that staffs Ontario's Drivetest Centres was poised to go on strike at 2 a.m. Thursday morning, but talks are still ongoing.

The United Steelworkers Union and multinational company Serco, which is contracted by the Ministry of Transportation to run the centres, remain at the bargaining table.

Driving tests scheduled for Thursday will happen as usual, but uncertainty remains for tests scheduled for Friday.

Approximately 550 employees in 56 locations across the province would be off the job Friday morning if a deal isn't reached.

Serco's management is hopeful a settlement can be reached this evening.

The company is asking people with tests scheduled for Friday to check the Drivetest website for information before attending their appointments.
