Toronto FC has dealt defender Todd Dunivant to the L.A. Galaxy in exchange for allocation money.

While the club isn't saying how much money it's getting as part of the deal, the cash can help Toronto to sign other players.

Director of soccer Mo Johnston said that the team is sad to see Dunivant go, but the trade will be good for the player and good for Toronto.

"As we continue to build a team, it's important this trade went through because we're getting ready to add more players."

Dunivant, 28, joined Toronto two summers ago and played 27 games, scoring one goal. The Colorado native spent much of last season on the bench nursing an ankle injury, making only nine appearances in 2008. He was also named the team's Humanitarian of the Year for community work.

The Stanford graduate will play his second season with the Galaxy, after having played 13 games with the club during the 2005 season.
