OTTAWA - Lakehead basketball player Tasia McKenna was named Canadian Interuniversity Sport female athlete of the week Wednesday.
McGill hockey player Francis Verreault-Paul took the male athlete of the week honour.
McKenna, a fourth-year kinesiology student from Timberlea, N.S., recorded 31 points last week to lead the Thunderwolves to a 69-65 win over Toronto.
The point guard hit six three-pointers and added six assists without committing a turnover.
McGill hockey player Vanessa Davidson and Simon Fraser basketball player Laurelle Weigl were also considered.
Verreault-Paul, a second-year science student from Mashteuiatsh, Que., had seven points (four goals, three assists) as the Redmen swept a two-game set against Ryerson.
Hockey players Dion Campbell of UNB, Chris Jones of York and Tyler Ruel of UBC were the other nominees.
