A man rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries after being shot in the head in the city's northwest end has died, Toronto police have confirmed.

Police say the man, believed to be in his 20s, was found bleeding on the ground near Denarda Street and Weston Road, north of Eglinton Avenue West, shortly before 4:30 p.m.

“It was reported that there were several shots,” Toronto police Const. Victor Kwong told CP24.

A perimeter was set up around the scene, and Weston Road was closed in both directions north of Eglinton Avenue as police invesitgated.

A canine unit was also called to the scene.

Trimbee Infant Resource Centre, located at 30 Denarda St., was temporarily placed in lockdown following the shooting.

There is currently no suspect in custody in connection with the shooting.
