A World Cup-related email scam is making the rounds with claims of US$940,000 being up for grabs through a Canadian government-sponsored lottery.
The email claims the recipient has won the "Euro-Afro-American Sweepstake Lottery International Programs" and provides a Kingston, Ont., return address.
According to security software maker Symantec, the emails appear to be originating from a sender named "Canadasouthafrica2010."
Many spam scams play off current events in a bid to get a user's attention and experts have seen a spike in World Cup-related emails.
The soccer event kicks off in South Africa in June.
