TORONTO - The province's Special Investigations Unit has identified a man who died after being shot during an altercation with Toronto police.

The agency says Michael Eligon, 29, died in hospital Friday after being shot during an "interaction" with police on Milverton Boulevard, in the city's east end.

Police said they responded after a man armed with two pairs of scissors had knocked on a door and demanded entry to a home.

The watchdog agency says 10 investigators are probing the incident, and one subject officer and 10 witness officers have been designated.
