Sunrise Propane apologizes for the Downsview explosion as reports surface that the company had filed an application to build a propane storage tank seven times larger than those already used at the site.

The company says it is expressing profound regret for the loss of life and for the turmoil caused by last week's blast.

This is the second time since the August 10th explosion that Sunrise has commented on the blast.

In a statement, the propane company says that it is committed to co-operating with investigators regarding the explosion. But the company is asking that there not be a rush to judgment against the company because there are so many investigations underway.

Sunrise says that it will make no further statements during this period "out of an abundance of caution and a desire for the investigatory process to unfold free of speculation and misinformation".

Meanwhile, according to a report from CBC News, owners of the company had filed an application to build a propane storage tank seven times larger than those already in use at the site.

The propane tanks on the Sunrise site could hold 4,000 gallons of propane before the explosion last week.

The company applied to the Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) for permission to install a tank that would hold 30,000 gallons of propane. They said that their business was increasing. The application has not been approved.

Toronto's chief building official Jim Laughlin said the city's zoning regulations would not have prohibited the request and that Sunrise most likely would have been allowed to expand its propane operations.
