At least two area children returned from trick-or-treating Saturday night with candy that had been tampered with, say police. Neither child was injured.

North York parents found a razor blade hidden in some candy during an inspection of their child’s candy.

Police say the family had been trick-or-treating in the area surrounding Leslie Street and Bannatyne Drive.

A Durham Region family also found a less-than-savoury item in their Halloween goodies, a needle stuck inside a Tootsie Roll. Police say the two-inch needle could be seen protruding from the candy and the wrapped appeared to have been manipulated.

Last year, Durham Region parents and children uncovered at least five Smarties boxes that contained unmarked pills.
