Durham Regional Police say a 34-year-old elementary school teacher in Ajax faces multiple sex offences after he allegedly had a sexual relationship with a former student.

Police say that earlier this month, an adult female victim came forward to allege that her former elementary school teacher sexually assaulted her.

The victim stated that she met the accused when she attended elementary school in Brooklin, Ont. and the alleged offences took place in 2008 when she was 14-years-old, once she had graduated on to high school.

On Tuesday, a suspect identified as Robert Chung was arrested in Ajax.

He is facing four counts of sexual assault, four counts of sexual interference, one count of sexual exploitation and one count of invitation to sexual touching.

He was held in custody pending a bail hearing.
