Toronto police have charged a 66-year-old Toronto man with one count of fraud over $5,000 in connection with an alleged construction fraud.
Police allege a 77-year-old woman paid the accused $25,000 to perform work on her home between June 2012 and May 2015. But no renovations took place during that time.
Matteo De-Paola was arrested on Tuesday, June 23. He appeared in court at 1000 Finch Avenue West on Wednesday, June 24 at 10 a.m. It is believed De-Paola offers his paving and renovation services primarily to the elderly, asking for a deposit or a large lump sum upfront.
He has operated under the business names of Paveland Paving Inc., M. De Paola General Contractor Paving, and A&M De Paola General Contractor Paving.
Police believe there are many other victims who have not yet come forward.
