Lawyers for the Toronto Star are hoping to have another connection between accused drug dealer Alexander Lisi -- and Mayor Rob Ford made public.

A character reference letter for Lisi, which was written by Ford back in June --was revealed in court yesterday.  It was filed during Lisi's sentencing hearing for threatening to kill his former girlfriend.

Lisi was handed a suspended sentence and two years probation, and is currently appealing that conviction.

Lisi, who is Ford’s friend and occasional driver, is currently facing marijuana trafficking charges.

Toronto Star lawyer Iris Fischer has asked for access to the character reference letter and Lisi's lawyer was expected to advise the court whether he will continue to oppose the release.

At an event this morning, when asked why the Mayor wrote a reference letter for Lisi, Coun.Doug Ford refused to respond.
