Two people were taken to hospital after a fire on Bloor Street West early Friday morning.

Firefighters were called to the blaze in the 2200 block of Bloor, near Runnymede Road, shortly before 2:30 a.m.

Reports from the scene indicate a small fire started in an apartment above a store.

People who were in the area at the time reported hearing screams coming from the apartment.

The victims are being treated for burns and smoke inhalation. A dog was also rescued from the burning building.

Police said the fire is not suspicious in nature.

Meanwhile, investigators are probing the cause of a fire in an abandoned house near Dundas and Jarvis streets late Thursday night.

The two-alarm blaze occurred on George Street.

No injuries were reported.
